Disruptive RhetoricBooklet2023

Our clothing acts as an instrument of language telling a story of the person behind the fabric and the people who wore it first. This booklet uses screenshots paired with the language used by online platforms like Depop, ThredUP, and Instagram to show how resell fashion platforms persuade consumers to shop secondhand, highlighting its blend of history, character, and sustainability. Through disruptive rhetoric, this booklet probes these websites’ motives and strategies to enforce their strive for sustainability. Although resell fashion helps to decrease the production of new products and the use of harmful chemicals, it participates in consumerism shifting from quantity to quality and storytelling.
